In 5 weeks, I traveled more than I have in the last 5 years combined. Sad, right? I went to San Antonio, Austin, and Lake Tahoe and had a blast getting to do some exploring and temporarily removing myself from reality. San Antonio and Austin were great, but this post is going to be all about Lake Tahoe.
For over a month, I schemed, plotted, and planned with my best friend Avery's mom and our friend Kelly to make sure that Avery would have the best and most memorable 21st birthday ever. Since Avery's birthday is in August when everyone is scattered during the summer, she thought she was going to have a quiet and somewhat lame 21st without her best friends around to celebrate with her.
She was wrong.
Her parents told her the night before her birthday that she needed to pack a bag and that the mystery adventure would start the following morning. Kelly and I played along and tried to help her guess where they could POSSIBLY be going ("Florida? Colorado? It's definitely Hawaii.") while never letting her in on our big secret. The next morning, we were conveniently texting her about being at work and wishing that we could be there with her on her birthday instead. After a flight from San Antonio to DFW, Avery, her parents, and her older brother were all waiting at the gate for their next flight to Reno. Right after they settled in at their gate........ SURPRISE! I showed up and the look on her face when she saw me is one I'll never forget. Shocked would be the understatement of the century! Fast forward through us playing along some more and trying to convince her that I was the big surprise and that there weren't any other major things happening. When we landed in Reno, Kelly surprised her (*cue another shocked face*) and our trifecta was finally whole again after three months of being apart.
The five days we were there were filled with delicious food, breathtaking views (my first time seeing mountains and the beach!), adventures out on the water, lots of laughs (mostly thanks to a game of Cards Against Humanity where we all secured a special place in hell... Especially me because I won...), and great chats. The townhouse we stayed in was perfect and every single one of us would highly recommend it. It's right on the beach and has a stunning view of the lake from the 2nd and 3rd floor balconies. We're all still experiencing post-vacation blues and already trying to figure out when we can go back. A vacation was exactly what we all needed and it's pretty safe to say that Avery had the best 21st birthday a girl could ask for!
Now excuse my whilst I sob while sharing some of my iPhone vacation pictures with you:
Thanks for everything, Lake Tahoe! Until next time.
